Use infrastructure investment as contracycle device: Montek

BANGALORE: India should not be guided by prevailing market situation and should have a 20-year horizon while investing and expanding infrastructure, according to Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission.

Admitting that the global downturn would create fiscal constraints that were going to require us to think how they would impact the ability to fund infrastructure including power, he said "we should be guided by long term contracycle policy" quoting the Prime Minister view on the issue.

"We should see infrastructure investment as a contracycle device", he said in the current economic scenario.
