Uganda speeds up power plant

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has directed the ministers of finance and energy and the Attorney General to speedily negotiate and conclude a deal with a Norwegian company, Jacobsen Electro AS, to build, operate and transfer (BOT) a 50MW thermal power plant in Kampala in the national interest.

"It should however, be noted that our commitment to solve the current energy shortfalls, does not, and will not in anyway weaken our resolve of zero tolerance towards corruption and ensuring that we strictly adhere to the relevant laws of public procurement," the President warned.
