UC Merced solar project funded

A 1.1-megawatt solar electricity system for the University of California, Merced, has been funded as part of a larger deal between Wells Fargo Bank and SunPower Corp., the company that will build the system.

Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) of San Francisco, and SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ: SPWRA) of San Jose have signed a $100 million deal to fund SunPower's commercial-scale solar systems, the first of which is the Merced project.
