UAE: DM signs BOT agreement to set up new waste treatment plant

The agreement was signed by Obeid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Administrative and General Services Affairs and Ahmad Essa Al Serkal, Chairman of Al Serkal Group.

Construction of the plant is slated to begin this month and it will be fully functional by July, with an optimum capacity to treat and process 50 cubic meters of grease and other wastes a day. In its second phase, capacity will be extended to 100 cubic meters. The initial cost of the project is expected to be Dhs8 million.

While the Al Serkal Group will build and operate the facility, Dubai Municipality through its departments of Drainage & Irrigation and Environment will implement rules and regulations, supervise all operations and play an active role in implementing and adhering to safety policies.
