Taiwan: MOTC to issue license for bullet train service this week

By The China Post staff

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) announced last night that it would issue an operating license for the high-speed rail system this week, allowing Taiwan High-Speed Railway Corp. (THSRC) to kick off official bullet train services. Vice transportation minister Ho Nuan-hsuan made the announcement at a press conference held after the MOTC completed its last supervisory meeting over the operation of the high-speed rail system.

Ho said his ministry decided to issue the go-ahead for the bullet train service by the THSRC because both Lloyd's Register Rail and three Japanese consultants invited by the MOTC to evaluate all the engineering, installations and tests related to the high-speed rail system have confirmed that the system has met the standards for official operation from its Tsoying station in southern Taiwan to the Panchiao station in northern Taiwan. In addition the THSRC has completed improvements of 33 deficiencies pinpointed by an inspection committee set up by the MOTC.
