Taiwan: High-speed train will be postponed again, says MOTC

Opposition party legislators urged the government to end its contract with Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. for the project's repeated delays after the Transportation Ministry announced that the official launch date for the high-speed rail will be postponed yet again.

During a legislative hearing on Monday, People First Party Legislator Liu Wen-hsiung said the bullet train service should have opened in 2003 as stipulated in the contract between THSRC and the Ministry of Transportation & Communications. Since the official launch has been delayed three times to date, Liu suggested that the ministry drop the company from the build-operate-transfer project for breach of contract.
