South Africa: Bhisho backs PPP concept to tackle backlogs

PUBLIC private partnerships (PPP) are the route to go if Bhisho is to tackle glaring infrastructure backlogs in the Eastern Cape successfully, Finance and Transport MECs Billy Nel and Thobile Mhlahlo said yesterday.

They were speaking at a well-attended PPP workshop in East London, hosted by the provincial treasury.

Nel said going the PPP route would help shift some of the huge financial challenge from the public to the private sector. At the same time, massive investment and growth opportunities for partnerships between the government and the private sector would be created.
