Reliance Energy-Led Group Wins $1.5 Billion Project (Update1)

Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Reliance Energy Ltd., India's second -- largest utility by market value, and Korea's Hyundai Engineering Construction Co. won a bid to build a $1.5 billion bridge across the sea, linking the nation's financial hub Mumbai with its suburbs on the mainland.

The government of Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, selected the grouping led by Reliance Energy over another led by Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd., Anil Deshmukh, Maharashtra's minister for public works, told reporters today.

Overpasses, bridges and a second airport are being built in Mumbai to better connect the suburbs with the island city, cut travel time and attract more investments.
