Government has provided R372bn to fund public infrastructure development over the next three years.

"Infrastructure spending has lagged somewhat behind Budget allocations in recent years," Finance Minister Trevor Manuel said at the presentation of his 2006 Budget.

"Concerted efforts are now in progress to strengthen capacity to plan, implement and monitor these programmes...
