Putin rejects global energy charter, signs Turkish pact

Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed an agreement in Ankara allowing the planned South Stream pipeline to pass through Turkey waters

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has signed an order rejecting Russia's participation in the Energy Charter Treaty, the government said yesterday.

Russia's rejection of the 15-year-old treaty was supported by the energy and foreign ministries, the government said in a statement. Moscow has already signalled its intent to pursue its own alternative plan.
