OTTAWA - Premier Dalton McGuinty came to the annual convention of Ontario's municipalities Monday bearing gifts: $1.1 billion in additional funding for roads, transit and bridges.
The funding comes as a result of the Investing in Ontario Act which allows the province - when a surplus above $600 million is posted - to spend the money on initiatives such as infrastructure. This year's funding was made possible after a $1.7 billion surplus was reported for in 2007.
