Minister: PPP priorities to be set according socioeconomic benefits - Chile

Public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives for Chile's roads network will be carried out according to their social and economic benefits, public works minister Eduardo Bitran told BNamericas.

When evaluating a project proposal, public works ministry (MOP) officials will review not only the social aspect of those benefiting within the proposed road's surrounding area, but also the economic benefits to be obtained by business and by the proposing company itself, he said.

The Chilean government passed on September 1 a bill to promote private investment in public road infrastructure. The measure offers tax breaks to private entities that invest on public roadworks.
