Alex Beveridge: Why is infrastructure a suitable investment for a pension fund and what percentage of a pension fund portfolio needs to be allocated to see any benefit?
Fraser Booth: USS started investing in infrastructure as we felt that infrastructure as a whole was a cheap asset class when viewed on a long term basis. At the time, the only people who were investing in a major way were the Australians and the Canadians, and the investment thesis was opportunistic. USS developed a relationship with an Australian adviser who helped the fund get into some joint ventures (JVs) in both Australia and a couple of assets internationally.
