Groups Urge Congress for More P3 Oversight

WASHINGTON -- A coalition of seven interest groups representing truckers and motorists last week called for more congressional and public scrutiny of public-private partnerships that states and localities are increasingly exploring to finance transportation projects.

The coalition's comments came before Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who is exploring a long-term lease deal with a private group for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniel, who led the campaign to lease the Indiana Toll Road, told reporters Friday that P3s are a vital tool for states to meet their transportation requirements. Rendell and Daniels were here to meet with White House officials and other supporters of the private deals.
