Experts hope $12bn GCC rail project will be operational by 2016

The Gulf is on the brink of making history by taking the final stride towards the implementation of the first railway network linking the six member countries.

GCC leaders meeting in Muscat, Oman, are expected to give a final endorsement to the specifications of the 1,940km rail network.
