Cash boost for Ecuador's roads

A total of US$ 216 million is to be spent on improving Ecuador's road infrastructure local media reports have said.

Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa signed 12 roadwork contracts between the Ecuadorian transport and public works ministry and the army engineering corps CEE, which will be responsible for carrying out the works, a statement from the government said.

It forms part of the president's initiative to boost national development by hiring a 100% local labour force, the report said.
