CANADA: Minister floats public-private partnership for Windsor-Detroit crossing

TORONTO - Lawrence Cannon, Canada's transport minister, said Monday that Ottawa is seeking to partner with the private sector to finance, build and operate a proposed new border crossing over the Detroit River, but stopped short of making a full commitment to the controversial approach.

Mr. Cannon said the government is keen on pursuing private sector involvement to build the proposed border crossing connecting Ontario's Highway 401 to the interstate highway system in Michigan as long as such an arrangement demonstrates sufficient accountability and good value for taxpayers' money.
