Canada: Hospital expansion goes P3

There are no ifs, ands or buts about it now - the Royal Jubilee Hospital's new tower will be financed as P3, or public-private partnership.

Premier Gordon Campbell announced plans to build the 10-storey, 500-bed facility as a P3 last week, despite concerns from regional politicians who are paying 40 per cent of the cost and are scheduled to get their first look at it today.

"The fact that they were going to go to a P3 - we've only heard rumours, there was no firm indication given on that. So we would have liked to have been involved in those discussions," said Esquimalt Mayor Chris Clement, who also chair the Capital Regional Hospital District board.
