A spokesman for Beijing Capital Iron and Steel Group, known as Shougang in China, said the new plant will include two 5500 m3 blast furnaces and will be operational at the end of 2008. It will replace Shougang's old facilities in Beijing by 2010 to become the country's largest steel production base. Costing CNY 68 billion (US$ 8.7 billion) the new plant will have a production capacity of 8.98 million tonnes of iron, 9.7 million tonnes of steel and 9.13 million tonnes of rolled steel a year.Posted by pichu at March 13, 2007 11:44 PM |
