« Zimbabwe in talks on China loan | Main | Africa Faces Quick Growth Challenges » December 27, 2006Asian Bank to help restore railway link between China and VietnamSource: M&C News Manila - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Wednesday it had approved a 60-million-dollar loan to help rehabilitate the railway link between China and Vietnam. The Manila-based ADB said the loan would finance the upgrade of the 285-kilometre railway line stretching between Yen Vien outside Hanoi and the border at Lao Cai. The ADB said the link 'carries substantial domestic and regional traffic between Vietnam's Hai Phong port and China's Yunnan province. The railway, which was built in 1910, has old and worn rails, tight curves, steep gradients, damaged bridges and passing loops that are too short to accommodate full-length trains.Posted by pichu at December 27, 2006 12:17 PM |
