African leaders warn EU not to lecture them on democracy

BRUSSELS, Belgium: African leaders told the European Union on Friday not to lecture them on democracy, and any future partnership had to be one of equals.

A majority of 18 African leaders at a three-day development conference in Brussels criticized renewed demands by the 25-nation bloc that they should do more to address human rights and corruption if they wanted more aid.
