Uruguay's state rail administration AFE has prequalified four firms and will now move forward in the international tender process to create a public-private partnership (PPP) to provide cargo transport services, AFE reported on its website.
The prequalified groups include two consortiums - the first comprised of the local unit of US forest products company Weyerhaeuser, US rail company Genesee & Wyoming, local forest products company Compañía Forestal Oriental, and local logistics company Schandy. The second one is comprised of firms Christophersen and Plañir, an AFE official told BNamericas. Indian firm Rites Limited also submitted documentation, as well as Argentine firm Benito Roggio Transporte, the official added.
