Analysis of Large-Scale Urban Development in India

CRGP research assistant Sagar Gandhi is beginning a new research study to examine the factors that condition the success of large-scale urban developments in India.

The research study offers a retrospective analysis of the success and failure of the historically developed cities like Bangalore, Chandigarh and Sahara's Aamby Valley (Lonavala) in India. It further investigates the upcoming urban developments like Sabeer Bhatia's Nanocity (Panchkula), Reliance's SEZ (Navi Mumbai) and HCC's Lavasa project (Pune). The research will emphasize the financial and infrastructural aspects of these emerging developments in the context of the existing historical city structures in India.

In sum, the findings of this research study will be helpful for understanding how these new developments are positioned relative to one another. The study will present the various causes of distress/failure of cities and provide recommendations to avoid these pitfalls in the future.
