International Conference on Design Management in AEC

Sao Paolo, Brazil

4 - 8 November 2008

Introduction

This conference will be organised on behalf of CIB W096 "Architectural Management" and TG49 "Architectural Engineering" in association with The Brazilian Network on Building Design Management. The conference will be hosted by Escola Politecnica da Universidade de Sao Paulo.

Aim

This conference looks at how design management is performed in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sectors around the world - the main approaches and techniques, the challenges and opportunities - in an attempt to map and analyse "best in class" approaches.

Documented cases from industry demonstrating best practice, recently completed PhDs and research projects are welcome. All papers will be subject to a double blind refereeing process. Accepted papers will be published in a book of proceedings.

The conference will be held in parallel with the 8th Brazilian Workshop on Building Design Management, with interconnecting sessions.

Themes

The following themes are for guidance and should be interpreted widely:

1.Collaborative Design Management

2.Integration of Design and Engineering Knowledge

3.Lean Design Management

4.The Design Manager's role

5.Role of Engineering in Design Management

6.Environmentally Sustainable Design and Engineering in a Digital Age

Submission and Schedule

Abstracts/expressions of interest should be written in English, be around 200 words long and identify the theme area(s) if applicable. The abstract should clearly state the nature of the contribution and identify the status of the work being reported. Papers should be between 4000 and 5000 words.

All submissions of interest/abstracts should be sent by E-mail, as an MS Word attachment, to Professor Silvio Burrattino Melhado before the deadline. Please remember to include your correct email address, postal address, and affiliation.
