India Energy Infrastructure Finance 2007

7~9 February 2007

Shangri-La Hotel , New Delhi, India

The concept

India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. India also has an insatiable energy demand fueled by an ever-increasing rate of industrialization and urbanization. This has caused a bottleneck in the energy supply infrastructure that threatens to derail India's economic growth.

There is also an urgent need for India to urgently increase investments in the energy sector in order to facilitate swifter economic growth. Considerable progress has indeed been made in attracting private capital in sectors such as telecommunications, ports, power, and roads. But the response so far has fallen short of expectations for various valid reasons – financial, technical, and economic. This is especially true of the energy sector.

Future expansion in the energy sector is dependant upon the emergence of a strong and sophisticated capital market.

This is required to

Build new production capacity, both conventional and renewable and

Create measures directed at improving energy efficiency in various user sections and in the Indian energy sector itself.

India's enormous potential for both energy production and consumption has greatly enhanced investment prospects in this field. Opportunities have widened rapidly with the opening up of this area through changes in government regulation encouraging international investment.

Against this backdrop, India Energy Infrastructure Finance 2007 is designed to educate local and international investors regarding the broad spectrum of India's energy market related opportunities. It is also designed to create a forum to bring together the world's major energy investment and finance players to meet the leaders in India's energy industry.
